In our region, the star of every good restaurant is the olive! And the star among stars... It's the picholine, of course! It's one of our region's culinary treasures, and has been for centuries. This unique olive has its roots in Collias and is now the pride of the entire Gard region.

La Picholine

Picholine, undoubtedly the tastiest olive in Provence.

Discover its characteristics, its subtle taste which gives birth to an exceptional PDO olive oil.

Ahhh… Picholine… Even her name sings with a southern accent!

It must be said that it has a particularly fruity taste, with slightly peppery notes. A remarkable eating olive whose flavor is matched only by its bright green color, but this olive must blacken two months after harvest before going to the mill press. This exceptional fruit can be consumed as a confection, as an aperitif, or in olive oil. It gives rise to an oil that is both bitter and spicy, with great nutritional virtues recognized well beyond the Gard region.

Recognition of a culture and know-how

After more than 18 months of work, investigations and discussions, the Olivettes du Pays de Nîmes association, a member of the Remarkable Sites of Taste, has obtained recognition for a culture and know-how: since October 2020, olives in the Nîmes region have been listed as part of France's Intangible Cultural Heritage!

And where can we taste this famous picholine?

At 2B COOP, of course! You can taste different oils offered by local producers and make your selection. You will also find excellent olive oils at Mediterranean Counter, and among wine producers who also produce olive oil on their estate, such as the Mourgues du Grès Castle, but also the Mas des Tourelles or Saint Louis La Perdrix Castle.
