Labeled City of Art and History Since 2001, Beaucaire has revealed a rich and surprising heritage. Its historic center fascinates with its unique charm.
Everywhere, mansions et beautiful homes bear witness to the prosperity of the 17th and 18th centuries. Every summer, the Saint Mary Magdalene Fair attracted the whole world. This influx transformed the city into a large, unmissable market.
The city occupies a strategic position, at the crossroads of river and land routes. The fair's franchise strengthens its reputation. This major event brings about an urban and architectural transformation in the district facing the Rhône.

When Beaucaire was the center of the world! 🌎
...We have merchants from the other hemisphere, and all we are missing is the inhabitants of the moon."

The fair takes place in July and attracts many merchants, visitors, and other curious onlookers. Crowds throng the city streets in search of all kinds of goods. Almost everything is traded: fabrics, local or exotic spices, kitchen utensils, and fantastic jewelry. People meet and exchange the latest information and gossip. And they also entertain themselves by watching acrobats or listening to musicians. It's good form to be seen at the Beaucaire Fair!
An exceptional heritage in the heart of the city
This period of opulence marked the beginning of new construction. Indeed, the best architects were invited to the Beaucaire construction sites and brought their expertise to the project.

Some residences resemble veritable urban castles. Their sculpted facades reveal allegories and references to the ancient world. For others, they are simply overnight rental spaces, built especially for the occasion… It is necessary to provide a place for everyone to sleep. The city counts between 60 and 000 visitors depending on the season.
Inside the houses, some owners are busy transforming the place. "On July 12th, I set about preparing the beds for the fair early in the morning. On July 13th, early in the morning, I had my stores cleaned..." – Journal of the Countess of Rochefort – 1689-1690.
Others add unique details to their courtyards to wow their guests. These elements make these hidden gems so popular.
Even today, turrets, monumental staircases, galleries, and gargoyles amaze visitors. These beautiful residences in the historic center of Beaucaire offer an unusual and fascinating discovery.
