Founded in the 10th century BC, Beaucaire is known as a relay town on the Domitian Way, under the name of Ugernum. In the Middle Ages, the city developed around its castle but it was really from the XNUMXth century with La Foire de la Madeleine, an essential place of commerce which animated the city for XNUMX days, that Beaucaire acquired its notoriety. From this sumptuous period, the rich merchants took advantage to build beautiful architectural ensembles and in particular certain private mansions still visible today in the historic center.
