Le Pont du Gard

Classified by the Routard guide as one of the 50 most beautiful monuments in the world, the Pont du Gard is the most grandiose part of a Roman aqueduct which led over 50 km, from Uzès, the waters to Nimes. The construction of the highest Roman bridge in the world, in the 1st century AD, was an exceptional technical feat for the time.
Depending on your desires and your pace, the Pont du Gard Site is a huge playground in which you can discover 2000 years of history in a unique and preserved environment.
Dive into the heart of Roman times and discover the secrets of the monument's construction by visiting the Museum, watching a film, or taking a guided tour that will take you to the top of the bridge where water flowed in Roman times. Designed to arouse curiosity and provoke questions, the Ludo area is a true playground for play and discovery. Thanks to a fun and active approach, it allows 5- to 12-year-olds to embark on a quest for knowledge. Sense of observation, imagination, and reflection will be called upon during this fascinating expedition! Explore the 15 hectares of restored plots of Mémoires de garrigue to grasp the full richness of this Mediterranean landscape. Follow the route of the aqueduct to discover the remains of the Roman structure or stroll along the riverbank to listen to the gentle lapping of the Gardon flowing beneath its arches. In the summer, the banks take on the appearance of beaches and welcome you for a refreshing break.
In summer, at nightfall, the monument comes to life and transforms into a giant screen with a sound and light show. A pure moment of magic and poetry to savor every evening in July and August (dates and times on www.pontdugard.fr).
Finally, the restaurant Les Terrasses, located on the right bank in the shade of century-old plane trees, welcomes you in an authentic atmosphere around tasty cuisine made from local products that will take your taste buds on a journey (Reservations recommended at 04 66 63 91 37).
