Tour de la Madone

Presentation

The last vestige of a 12th century feudal castle, this watchtower dominates the plain of Petite Camargue and gave its name to the town: Belle Garde.

Located atop Bellegarde Hill, the Madonna Tower offers a superb panoramic view of the Camargue plain. It is one of the architectural treasures of the Terre d'Argence region.

The statue of the Virgin and Child, Notre Dame de Bellegarde, was installed at the top of the tower in 1875, the year the current village church was consecrated.

The venue has an open-air theatre where the Bellegarde Comedy Festival takes place every year in June.
