Museum Overview

Bellegarde is a commune located on the banks of the Rhône-Sète canal in the Gard department, in the Occitanie region.

Bellegarde is a pretty, hilly village with a population of just over 7000, overlooked by the Tour de la Madone. Perched at an altitude of 102 meters, the Tour de la Madone was part of a larger XNUMXth-century fortification complex, the Castrum Bellae Gardae, which gave its name to the town. A walk to the heights of Bellegarde is well worth the detour, as the view over the Petite Camargue plain from up there is simply magnificent!

In the heart of the village, an authentic 19th-century oil mill with its blood millstone (a mechanism using animal or human power to crush olives) is the pride of the Bellegardais.

At the Port of Bellegarde on the Rhône-Sète Canal, you can rent a boat without a license from the rental company Nicol's Yacht.

Water is omnipresent in Bellegarde, and a museum deals with the subject: the Water Museum, where you can discover the Bellegarde Aqueduct.
